Associate

Cara Hu is an Associate at Builders VC on the Enterprise & AI investment team, focused on AI-enabled products and infrastructure across legacy and industrial workflows. She sources opportunities, leads diligence and deal execution, supports portfolio companies, and tracks emerging trends to inform investment strategy with a quantitative lens.

Previously, Cara was an Investment Analyst at Five Elms Capital, where she evaluated B2B SaaS businesses, built operating and financial models, and supported portfolio initiatives including board materials and M&A workstreams. Her experience also includes private equity at Kinzie Capital Partners and early-stage deep tech investing at Gen 1 Capital.

Cara is passionate about data-driven decision-making and brings a technical, research-trained perspective to evaluating AI and data products—grounded in data quality, evaluation rigor, and real-world adoption. Her research background includes econometric work in R on SPAC merger outcomes and graduate research in statistical methods to improve injury prediction under highly imbalanced sports datasets.

She holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Northwestern University (including a Kellogg undergraduate certificate in Financial Economics) and an M.S. in Statistics from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Outside of work, she is a Boston Marathon qualifier and enjoys playing the piano, reading, and traveling.
