Declan Sander
Analyst
Declan Sander is an Analyst at Builders VC. He's particularly drawn to founders building technology that addresses challenges in food systems, community health infrastructure, and resource efficiency. Declan also co-founded and serves as Treasurer of Birchbark Health, a TELUS Health-backed, Indigenous-led nonprofit building community capacity across Canada, work rooted in growing up in a community navigating the opioid crisis.
Prior to Builders, Declan was an Analyst at New York based Alpaca VC, where he worked on investments across PropTech, AgTech, and supply chain. Before Alpaca, Declan worked on the trading floor at RBC Capital Markets, rotating across corporate foreign exchange, natural gas, and electricity trading. He was first introduced to venture capital in university as a Fund Manager for his school's $1.1MM student venture fund. Declan has also held various roles at Coca-Cola, EY, and Farming Smarter as an agronomy research technician.
Declan holds a BComm in Finance from the University of Calgary, where he studied as a Richard and Lois Haskayne Scholar, the largest and most prestigious business scholarship in Canada. Outside of work, Declan serves as a National Director on Amnesty International Canada's Board, is Past President of Best Buddies UCalgary (an organization that matches community members with intellectual disabilities with students), serves on L'Arche's Fund Development Committee, and serves on Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada's National Governance Committee. Declan was also a competitive rower with the University of Calgary Dinos and is currently training to attend Henley Royal Regatta.
